Beaches for Everyone

Villaricos

San Juan de los Terreros

Vera Playa

Cabo de Gata

The Almanzora valley sweeps down to meet the sea at El Playazo; a 7Km sandy beach, at one end of which is Villaricos and the dry Almanzora river itself.

Stretching away in each direction are a myriad of other beaches of white, gold and black sand, shelving rock and pebbles all washed by an exceptional clean, clear sea. Fish are plentiful here and there is some great snorkelling and diving, including sub aqua schools. The coast offers superb sailing and overnight anchorage off deserted beaches.

You can choose whatever you prefer; water sports, beach bars, lots of company or the remote tranquillity of small beaches reached only by boat or on foot. No high rise buildings obtrude. The coastal towns are much as they always have been and the villages are traditional fishing villages with small fishing fleets and friendly local bars and restaurants.

Villaricos

Villaricos has several beaches and rocky coves; which are great for exploring and crabbing. Most of the beaches have showers.

The nearest beach is a pebble beach next to the marina. A few minutes walk to the left of the apartment is a shingle beach. A sandy beach is located at the other end of the village; approximately 10 minutes walk from the apartment along the seafront. Parking is available right on the beach which saves having to carry umbrellas, towels, drinks, food and small children too far! There is also a beach cafe/bar serving drinks, food and ice creams.

San Juan de los Terreros

San Juan de los Terreros is only a short 10 minute drive North of Villaricos along the coastal road. There are several coves and secluded small beaches along the way which can also be explored. San Juan de los Terreros is in a beautiful location on a large bay with shallow waters and wide sandy beaches. Remember your flip flops as the sand is extremely hot! There are several beachside cafes and bars to relax, grab a bite to eat or a beer and enjoy the view.

Vera Playa

Vera Playa is recognised as one of the best and largest beaches in the area being awarded a 'blue flag'. It has lifeguards, showers, toilets, bars and cafes. Watersports are also available.

A naturist's beach is located to the very North end of the beach.

Cabo de Gata

All along the coast of Almeria are many quiet and beautiful beaches, considered to be the best in Andalucia, some only accessible by boat or by foot. The stunning Cabo de Gata Natural Park can be reached in approximately 1 hour from Villaricos.

San Jose Beach is one of the finest beaches located along a dirt road to the Southwest of town approximately 1 hour from Villaricos.

Another popular beach is Playa de los Genoveses, which is approximately a kilometre long with shallow waters and rocky headlands at each end.

Playa de Mónsul is one of the most unusual beaches in the area being surrounded by huge lumps of volcanic rock with fine grey sand.

Expansive isolated Playa de Los Muentos beach. An impressive picture postcard has an aerial photograph showing the length of this dead straight beachy cove. Park the car in the car park by the information point and first walk to the viewpoint before descending the long path down to the beach.

There are no facilities so take all your provisions with you. Save some water for the taxing walk back up the hill. Swimming costumes are not obligatory in such a natural and isolated environment.
